Default Newbie N/Mo got some questions

Hey guys, i'm pretty new to GWs and got a couple questions on the Necro MM build. So here i go,

1) Currently i'm trying to get to this build,

16death
11sp
8healing prayer

my build currently is 12, 10, 8... and i'm already lvl 18

I saw one of the build threads and the template states its 12+1+3, 10+1, 8. So may i know what does the "+1+3" mean? and how do i go about doing that?

2) What kind of armor & weapon should i start aiming for once i hit lvl 20?

3) Currently i solo quite abit, haven't really partied much with real people. Only a few times now, so what are the ideal party members i should get if i'm gonna hire some henchmen?

1. "+1+3" means +1 attribute from the headpiece, +3 points from a Superior rune of Death magic.

Basically, to get 16, 11, 8 you need to have a Death Magic headpiece with a Superior Death Magic rune on it, and put a Minor Soul Reaping rune on any other piece of armour.

2. The type of armour doesn't matter, it's just aesthetic. You should look into a suitable insignia (Minion Master's Insignia, with one Bloodstained Insignia may be OK). As for Weapons, look for Death Magic weapons. Either a staff with "Halves Casting Time of Death Magic Spells (Chance: 20%)", or a Wand/Focus set with same. The HCT inscription may help to speed up the minion raising spells.

3. I don't understand this question.

Depends on the campaign you're playing in. Different henchmen have different builds. Which campaigns do you have?

To explain that better, each town and progressing through the game, the henchmen change. Like in shing jea there were just those 6 or so henchmen, they eventualy get replaced, added to, etc. So where in cantha are you? In general with an MM I would bring 2 monks, fire ele(cynn), ranger, fill up the rest with whatever

for 8 men areas ill recomend somethign like this:

-you(mm) tip: blood of the master try not to use this skill it will keep your monks very busy healing you and not healing the rest of the party
-2 monks( prot and heal if any)
-fire ele (nuker lots of dmg)
-mesmer a good hex is always helpful when killing the main target (ie. monks)
-rit some spirits heal some help kill
-warrior use him as a tank ( take a lil time to ping the foe you want to kill) "Ctrl + space"
optional (earth ele is good cause of wards gives a lil more protection to the party)
REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT A TANK STAY BACK ALWAYS, if you die your minions might wipe your entire party.

hope this will help

Be VERY wary of Monks in Cantha. Jamei and Sister Tai both have horrid builds. You will invariably find Professor Gai (a Ritualist Henchman) a better replacement for one of those Monks. Gai is a Restoration Ritualist, and his bar has decent heals, and a little protection thrown in. In short, his bar is far better constructed than the Monk henchmen's. When you get to the Forest or the Jade Sea the Monk henchmen improve slightly.

Nothing like being hit by a 250 [[mind burn] in hm while jamei casts healing breeze

Anyway, the earth elementalist is generally useful due to wards.

Post my two cents...

Hopefully you are still watching this Matt. I have my two cents to throw in so you have a hopefully more successful gaming experience. I have a tip I didn’t see anyone mention, and a spin on henchy/heroes in your group.

Q#1 Has been answered and explained already.

Q#2 Consider not using wands or staffs to avoid “caster hate” in PVE. To briefly explain, the game AI recognizes wands and staffs and then uses more appropriate skills to cause you problems. This tip also should be applied to your caster heroes. I personally would recommend using a caster modified spear and focus for general use.

Q#3 A lot of combos work just fine in NM PVE. But I do have a couple tips. Having two monks is generally a good idea. I recommend one hero and one henchy, set the hero monk to avoid combat and disable it’s rez. Let the henchies worry about resurrecting, and when the rare need arises, you can micro the rez.

Necro’s are great fun, good luck

Would normally be an "I have the power" inscription and a Spear grip of enchanting(The spearhead I'm unsure about) on really any gold inscribable spear.

The beauty of spears also shows itself during 4/6 man area vanquishes where teams are compressed.Ranged physical damage to trigger your [mark of pain]+[barbs]

It depends on the build. Fortitude mod is more commonly used than enchanting unless you are using a specialized build or a sac build.

You can use a silencing spear head if you intend to bring technobabble.

You would need to salvage them or buy them from other players. They're usually fairly commonplace and barely cost more than 5k these days though, save a select few particularly sought after ones. +5 energy, HCT (10%), HSR (10%) inscription should be pennies.

I assume you mean the NPCs around the Historian NPC? These are part of the "Bonus Mission Pack" which you need to have activated on your account before you can use them. This link should tell you all you need to know about the BMP: http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Bonus_Mission_Pack

I heard we need special builds to do farming in guildwars? like the 55 build thing or so..lol

No you don't NEED a farming build, but I assure you that you will WANT one.

Farming with more heros/henchmen means less drops for you.

There are a huge amounts of farming builds out there, many specialized and a few more generalized. For a quick reference, look at PvX wiki to give you a good idea of what to do and what you are aiming for. However, after looking at PvX, please use the search option on guru to look for feedback on PvX wiki's build. Often those builds are suboptimal compared to what could be run in its stead.
